Midsummer Dream

AN EDITION OF THE TAYLOR COLLECTION

Shall I compare thee* to a summer’s day?
Thou art so lovely and so delicate,
The season’s prime element you portray:
Illuminating charm’s existing trait;
How I love to see the way you shimmer,
Your sun-kissed glow, honeyed and bright,
Under the sun’s light you shine and glimmer;
Become my self, my nature, my delight,
And thy eternal summer shall not fade,
Nor lose possession of that fair thou ow’st;
Nor shall death brag thou wander’st in her shade,
When in eternal lines to time thou grow’st:
So long as loved ones can breathe or can see,
So long lives thee, and this gives life to me.
